Build Your Own House:  The Architect

In this video we talk about how the architect plays an integral role when you build your own house as an owner-builder. We explore different architectural plan options and consider the idea of utilizing your architect as a site inspector.  Who better than your architect to review work to make sure it was built per plan?

We discuss the qualifications and experience required for the architect you hire and what he/she will cost.  A local residential architect is a must for your owner-builder projects.  They will know the local codes and building practices, building inspectors, and even some of the local subcontractors.  Be sure your architect specializes in residential design as this is very different from commercial construction and building practices.

You can build your own house as the owne-builder.  A good architect will help you avoid problems you might otherwise encounter.
