ArmchairBuilder > Videos > Low Cost Bath Remodel > Shower Tile Backer...What Not to Use

If you are thinking of remodeling your shower with some sleek new tile, be sure you use the appropriate shower tile backer.  You want your new shower to hold up to the constant wet/dry cycles it will be subjected to.  The best way to do this is to use a moisture resistant shower tile backer board.  Cement backer boards won't warp, delaminate, disintegrate, or swell if they get wet.

But what about drwall as a shower tile backer?  In this video, we show you a shower we tore apart that had drywall as the shower tile backer.  Even though the drywall had the moisture resistant green surface, it still crumbled when removing it.  This is not the material you want supporting your new tile.  We point out some damage from the moisture and talk about proper the proper shower tile backer for your new project.
